Shoe Pr0n

Classic shapes, repulsive beauty and stunning creativity in footwear.

Welcome to Shoe Pr0n.

You won't find any dainty strappy numbers, flip flops, or gladiator sandals here. If you think Uggs or Crocs are acceptable forms of footwear, we probably won't get along. There are a million shoe blogs out there, but as this one is curated by me it is obviously going to be full of fabulous things.

Zaha Hadid and United Nude- two of my go-to names for good design have teamed up to create this impossible shoe. Made of vinyl rubber, fiberglass, and leather, this shoe is truly original. Hadid has used her architectural magic to find the perfect angle that makes the shoe appear to float. It almost looks like it couldn’t possibly balance. Yet it does. Science fictional design!!

Miroike.
A two-designer label launched in 2004 and based in Berlin, Miroike is the artchild of Ulrike Seidel and Ramiro Calderoan. The two studied under Dame V. Westwood, and their deconstructionist attitude towards footwear is a wonderful nod to her aesthetic sensibilities.
Until recently I hadn’t heard of them, but I’ll be keeping an eye on their work from now on.

Jil Sander.

Hints of color on the edges, oversized decorative buckles…. These are cartoons of shoes.

I love them.

Pretty sure every shoe fetishist (I mean an ACTUAL fetishist, before the norms coopted the term “fetish”) bought these shoes…

Ilja.
Like many of my favorite designers, Ilja Visser is a Dutch experimental shoe designer who raises an eyebrow and smirks at footwear expectations.
This is the most graceful of her designs, but not necessarily the most interesting. Stay tuned for more of her experimental work.
